The Knowledge Based Coast
The purpose of this project is to improve the professional skills of workers at risk of emargination from the labour market through continuous and permanent training in the five provinces of the Tuscan Coast and invests in the enhancement of human resources to launch entrepreneurial competitiveness. The five provinces of Livorno, Pisa, Lucca, Massa and Grosseto worked in partnership with another 30 organisations in order to meet the challenges set by the New Pact for Work as laid out by the Tuscan region – “qualifying human resources” and “Tuscany as a competitor in quality”. An experimental system was established to increase knowledge as well as the transversal and professional skills of workers. The actions included training on community programmes and employment policies for local government personnel, training schemes for workers in sectors in crisis, the promotional of equal opportunities between men and women, a network of information offices combined with those for people with atypical work contracts and the creation/improvement of observatories to analyse the training needs of the various economic sectors.
